a question for Aussie, Canadian and UK moms?

Question by Veronica (hunters momma): a question for Aussie, Canadian and UK moms?
ok we all know about the heated debates on here, like circumcision, bf vs ff, co sleeping, vaccinations, CIO, cloth vs disposable diapers, sweets vs no sweets, cereal in bottles or not, organic food or not for baby ect. it goes on and on. i am from the US and i know the “norms” or what not over here, like any more CIO is looked down upon, cloth diapers are making a comeback, vaccinations are optional, more and more people are making there own baby food in stead of buying jars.

i also know what the popular brands and stores over here are, like huggies and pampers for diapers, johnsons and aveeno for bath products, evenflo, cosco and playtex for carseats/play pens/high chairs ect. garanamals, carters, child of mine, baby gap, ect for baby clothing brands. we shop at sams club, costco, target, wal mart, krogers, winn dixies down south ect.

for our selves we shop in jc penneys, kohls, macy’s elder beermans, ect. off-brands of baby things include parents choice and target brand.

my ? for you aussie, canada, and uk moms are:

3. what are the name brands popular where you live?
4. what are the off brands?

    1. West49, Payless Shoe Source, Walmart, Boathouse, Real Canadian Superstore, Sobeys, Food Basics, Zehrs, Shoppers Drugmart, HMV, Sunrise Records, The Childrens Place, Babies R Us, Toys R Us

    2. Zehrs for groceries, Walmart and occasionally Babies R Us for baby stuff

    3. Pampers, Huggies, Johnsons, Evenflow, Playtex, Sears

    4. Parents Choice, Sobeys brand, No Name

    5. We shop mostly at Walmart and Zehrs because they have decent stuff for really good prices.
I also like West49 and Boathouse because they have the skater/surfer style clothes which I like, but their expensive so I don’t get to shop there very often. I’m actually wearing all clothes I got from Boathouse right now lol
My favourite restaurant is East Side Marios. But they can be pretty pricey and with a baby we don’t get a chance to go out and eat as often anymore, so that’s our special occasion restaurant.
Papa Johns Pizza make amazing pizza and the prices are really good too.

    Hi sweetie, I’m an Aussie

The one major shopping centre that we have about 15 mins from us, has an array of shops, everything from about 4 hair dressers, craft shops, jewellery shops (by the millions), mobile phone shops, 2 grocery shops (one at either end of the 1km long shopping centre), fruit shops (also one at either end), banks, newsagents, chemists/pharmacies, Kmart, Target, Pumpkin patch, book shops, music shops, etc. You name it sweetie, just about anything you could possibly need is in this shopping centre.

Also in this same shopping centre, we do do our grocery shopping, usually at Coles. They also have a baby section but my youngest tends not to eat a lot of baby food products now, much prefers our table food.

Name brands I guess, because I’m not one of the young teenage “sheep” that must follow a crowd, I tend to go myself for Kmart brands. Sometimes I will buy Target but have found them to be so much more expensive. Because kids grow out of their clothes so much quicker, I’m reluctant to buy too many kids clothes there. Pumpkin patch is another popular kids brand here but again very expensive. Huggies, BabyLove and Snugglers are popular nappy brands. Colorado and City beach brands too are popular for the young adults. The more mature women, shop at Millers and Sussan. They aren’t too bad with prices but way too old for me, maybe in 20 years I might shop there!!!

I guess there really are no off brands. If it looks good and you feel comfortable wearing it, then no one really cares where it’s been purchased. I know that’s my view anyway.

Our favourite little cafe to eat at this shopping centre was a little place called XS Cafe but they went and changed the manager and now the staff aren’t as nice and the service isn’t as good as it use to be. Gloria Jeans is lovely and the staff are always good there when you want a nice cuppa and a piece of cake. There is also a little coffee shop up the top of Myers that is also lovely.

So there you go sweetie, there’s one person’s point of view of the shops in Australia. Hope you enjoy the input. Oh and I live in Queensland, Australia also known as the “Sunshine State – Beautiful one day, perfect the next” or so most of our advertising goes for overseas visitors :-)

All the best and have a great week ahead sweetie x

    UK Mom

    1) Mothercare, Adams, H&M, M&S, Mamas & papas all sell good quality baby clothes. Mamas & papas and Mothercare sell pretty much everything. We also have babies r us.

    2) Regular superstores and markets for baby foods and toiletries. (Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys)

    3) Johnsons, huggies and pampers are all popular here. Formulas are SMA, cow & gate, Hipp organic to name but a few. Foods are heinz, farleys, hipp organic, ella’s kitchen, cow&gate. But there are loads of others. Graco, mamas & papas, maxi-cosi, Silver cross and a million other makes for various baby items (car seat, pram ect..)

    4) I’m not keen on heinz foods or cow & gate, and I’ve never bought farleys rusks, even though I loved them as a kid. I use reusable nappies, so not sure about duff disposables.

    5) I generally take my own foods and just feed in a coffee shop (costa, starbucks ect)
