After reading all the various reviews on the Bright Starts Play Mat, I decided to purchase this for my 3 month old. She likes it, but not as much as some of the babies that get mesmorized by the ladybug! I bought it because we needed more “tummy time” with our baby. It made the dreaded tummy time go very smoothly. My baby liked the colors and the crinkley sounds on the mat. It’s very nicely designed and I really like all the options I can create for my baby. The toys and mat itself are of nice quality, and she likes the hold on to the rings, look at herself in the mirror and is using the teething ring right now. Someday, when you’re baby’s done with it, you’ll hand this down to one of your “good” friends!

We started using this for our baby when he was 5 weeks old and within 2 days he was able to smack the bee around for 15 minutes at at time. 10 months later, he still plays in it everyday.

This is a really great play place for babies… especially for tummy time, since it gives a wide view of interesting things for the baby with the side walls. My baby really didn’t enjoy tummy time much, but now she has a lot more to see so she stays longer. And since its adaptable to so many formats, it stays interesting for the babies short attention span :)

This was an unexpected present that I didn’t know how I would have lived without. My son LOVES this play place. He has used it from Day 1 multiple times a day. He is now 6 months old and still loves it. I regularly change out the toys so he doesn’t get bored. But this has been a lifesaver over and over again. When I brought my son how from the hospital he would only sleep in this or on me for the first 2 weeks. And now that he’s creeping he loves to go through it. And when he gets tired he puts his head down and falls asleep. Best of both worlds. It’s also easy to travel to grandma’s with so he has something familiar to him when away from home.

I purchased this for my son when he was about 3 months old. He loved spending time in it, and it was very versatile and adaptable to his various stages. I also love that its easy to wash and reassemble the play mat when he drools or spits up on it.

    1. Set Up- Very easy if you are someone who reads directions. I tried to do it myself and ended up with a toy that folded in on itself. Read the directions and you’ll save time.

    2. Mat- Very plush. Could be slightly larger, but still a great size overall. The pictures on the mat are great- real life photos are mixed with the corresponding cartoon animal.

    3. Music Toy- Wonderful songs- I believe there are 7 in all. Two different levels of sound and two options for music- continuous play or motion detected. However, the continuous play goes for maybe 5 minutes and then you have to get up and flip the switch ‘off’ and then ‘on’ to make it go through the songs again. Sort of annoying when you are trying to go to the bathroom or take a shower and you have to run out to turn the music on again. The blinking lights in the middle that correspond with the music it’s playing, teach rhythm and keep my son’s attention- until it turns off, that is.

    4. Toys- There are an abundance of toys that go with this mat. Unlike any of the other mats on the market, you can move the toys around (there are about 15 different hooks on the mat that you can move the toys to.) The panda has gotten the most play time so far- it is the longest and therefore the closest to my son’s hands when he reaches up. It’s very cute and has some rattles inside. The two chips with animals on one side and the world map on the other make an intriguing noise when banged together and are thin enough for an easy hold. The hanging world rattle is great when baby is a bit older. It scares my son as of now because it is slightly louder than any rattle he’s played with before. It is super cute and has a good hand-hold for when he becomes interested. The mirror is obviously plastic, but has a great image. The lion peering down makes a good friend in the mirror and my son loves to catch himself in the image and then scream at himself. There is an adorable igloo/penguin teether that hasn’t gotten much play time yet, either, but I’m certain it will soon. I put it in the fridge for a bit and he loved sucking on it. The little bird is the least interactive toy on the mat; she just hangs there, but I catch my son staring at it every now and again. The corresponding picture on the mat, however, is my son’s favorite picture to look at.

    5. PLUS- Song toy from the top can be removed an put into baby’s crib at night. Doubles as a great night light and has more than enough soothing lullabies.

    6. OVERALL- Great mat! I am so glad that we waited the few extra months for its release date. It was well worth the wait. It keeps his attention for over 20 minutes and he’s only 3 months old! I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a mat- the issue with the song toy is not nearly worth not purchasing it.

My 8week old LOVES this play mat! The centre light up globe especially captivates her attention everytime! I put the rattle next to her which she loves to hit and play with. The rattle makes lots of noise which my little on loves so they couldn’t have put a better one there.

Panda provides the black red and white stimulation though she hasn’t gotten into him much as yet, and she loves the mirror as well. I was back and forth between going with the fisherprice rainforest or the tiny love gemini, I decided on this one particularly because of the removable/portable world and I’m very happy that I did!

    EDIT

I have to disappointingly say the the globe has stopped working! I thought the batteries needed changing, but I’ve put in new ones and it seems as though the product has malfunctioned! A real shame too because my daughter loves the globe! Rating was 5 stars, but the globe quitting on me is of course a HUGE problem.

My baby loves this mat. It is very colorful and the animals are cute. But at less than five months old she starting kicking the arches and they fall down over her unless I weigh down the sides. The support system should be better designed to prevent the arches from toppling over.

We registered for this and were given this toy for our baby shower. I gotta say, it’s been my son’s favorite toy since he was first brought home. He loved the lights and sound that came from the removable globe at the top, but after 2 months of use it broke. It still lights up, but the sound refuses to work. My husband took it apart (after changing the batteries out didn’t work), and noticed that the wires that lead into the speaker have come loose. He tried to fix it, but it still won’t work. I’m a little sad, cause my kid loved the sound and to look at the lights. But it’s still a functional toy in every other aspect, and I like that we can switch out the toys for him to play with. We still use it, just now without the globe. If I would have paid for it, I’d probably be taking it back for a replacement, cause 2 months of use for it to break; especially when it’s not something that even gets pulled on or touched, is a little ridiculous.

I’m not sure if I’d recommend this one to anyone else. You can probably get the same toy for cheaper, and it won’t break as fast.

My 3 month old has been enjoying this since she was 6 weeks old. She LOVES the music and mirror and it’s great because they can be moved to her crib or wherever. She kicks her feet and squeals and now she can play with the toys. The music lasts a long time, but then shuts off on it’s own (or you can use the “motion” feature that turns on when you shake it). This product has already proved to be the best non-essential investment I’ve made.
