Mothers’ Milk Bank at Austin: Save a baby, donate milk!

The Mothers’ Milk Bank at Austin is a non-profit organization whose mission is to accept, pasteurize, and dispense donor human milk by physician prescription primarily to premature and ill infants. Research shows preemies fed human milk, as opposed to infant formula, avoid serious medical complications, gain immunological benefits, and grow. One in eight babies are born premature, yet half of mothers of preemies arent able to provide their baby with breast milk. Thats why donating milk matters. After medical screening, mothers of healthy babies donate frozen milk at 11 milk depots around Texas. Our courier delivers donated milk to Austin where we test it, pasteurize it, perform nutritional analysis, and bottle it. Then we deliver milk with a tested caloric count targeted to babies growth needs to hospital neonatal ICUs in Central Texas, Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and in six other states. This year well dispense 260000 ounces of milk to help about 1500 fragile babies thrive. That means we’re counting on 300 women—and their babies—to share their milk. Express your inner lifesaver.
