Q&A: What are the most important organic baby items to buy?

Question by buldawg57: What are the most important organic baby items to buy?
I am about to have my first baby and I think I might be becoming one of those paranoid new moms who reads into everything she hears. I need to use cloth diapers to avoid dioxin, an organic mattress to avoid flame retardant chemicals, etc. Does anyone know what the most important items for the baby are that need to be organic? I do not have the sort of budget that will allow me to go 100% organic. Any suggestions?

the most important thing you can giver your newborn is breast milk! I wouldn’t worry too much about all that hype! I too buy mainly organic food items and cleaners to reduce the toxins, but don’t become one of those paranoid people who feel that they basically need to live in a bubble. Congrats and enjoy your newborn!

Definitely food. Breastfeed and buy organic baby food and baby cereal. Also, try to buy, not necessarily organic, but hypoallergenic laundry detergent, like Dreft. Oh, and another things would be allergy free soaps and shampoos.

USA Baby has a lot of organic items. I believe Babys R Us and Target do as well.
Gerber makes organic baby food and there is organic formula as well (if you need to supplement w/ breastfeeding).

There’s a listing of baby stores (with a couple supplying organic and natural products) at http://www.ebabycentre.com/product.htm which may help.
