Q&A: This is for all you stupid breastfeeding nazis/co-sleeping/organic feeding/baby wearing mommies?

Question by Guess: This is for all you stupid breastfeeding nazis/co-sleeping/organic feeding/baby wearing mommies?
Did I get your attention? Good. I asked this question an hour ago and received 3 answers. Please answer it, I just need your opinions. If there’s enough answers I might send cookies out. Any kind of cookie you want.

I would really appreciate it if you guys can look at some pictures of my daughter’s head and tell me if you feel it is misshapen.

Her doctors think she has craniosynostosis. Craniosynostosis is when the sutures in a baby’s head close prematurely. Her craniofacial surgeon thinks her coronal and sagittal sutures are closing. I’m anxiously waiting on them to call to schedule a CT scan. If the CT scan shows that her sutures are closing then she’ll have to have surgery.

I’m really confused about this because, to me, her head looks perfect. But maybe it’s because I’m her mommy and I’m blinded to her imperfections.

Here is a description of what happens to a baby’s head when the sagittal suture closes.
“Premature fusion of the suture at the top of the head (sagittal suture) forces the head to grow long and narrow, rather than wide. Scaphocephaly is the most common type of craniosynostosis, and it is more common in boys.”

Here is a description of what happens when the coronal sutures close.
“When both of the coronal sutures fuse prematurely, your baby may have a flat, elevated forehead and brow.”

Now, she does have ridges that go across the top of her head where the coronal sutures and sagittal sutures are, but you can’t really see them because of her hair.

Please give me your opinions on her head. Does it look misshapen to you? Thanks.
Oops forgot to ask what kind of cookies do you like?

Don’t know why they quit working.
I titled my question the way did because I knew it would get everyone’s attention. I’ve noticed the more controversial the question, the more answers.

Was just hoping to get people to actually open the question and entice them with the promise of cookies.

I can’t get the pictures to come up, but if your doctor thinks there is a problem, there likely is.

Oh, and I’d like Macadamia Nut & White Chocolate cookies please!

I know two children who had this condition, and the surgeries, and they are now fine.

I saw this earlier and thought I answered….but apparently Y!A was having a glitch or something…IDK what happened. Anyway, your links on this question aren’t showing up, but from your other pics I will answer (again)

It looks like maybe her forehead is stickign out further and maybe her head is a little “long” if that makes sense. But really, I wouldnt’ have noticed had you not asked this question. She is very cute!! :)

ETA: Forgot the cookies question-I like chocolate chip or peanut butter =) if you are passing them out… LMAO

  2. Milania's Mama says:

Your links dont work. And by the way, asking a question using the terms you did wont get you many answers.

EDIT: First of all she is beautiful. While it’s not extremely noticable I can tell what you are talking about. I would definetly have the doctors proceed with checking it out. Hopefully she will not need surgery.

I will pray for your baby girl.

lmao @ stupid breastfeeding nazis/co-sleeping/organic feeding/baby wearing mommies (that is the truest statement ive ever heard, especially in this section)

After looking at the pics, i would not have noticed anything wrong with your baby’s head. It looks like a perfectly growning baby head to me. I hope the doctors are wrong and she is fine, but if thats not the case rest assured they will do what they have to to fix it. Good luck and try not to stress to much until you know the final result.

And about the cookies…. do you have anything fat free as i am still desperately trying to squeeze back into my pre pregnancy jeans.

  4. HEROs Mom HALO due 10/03/10 says:

MAYBE her forehead protrudes a little, but honestly if you did not draw attention to her head I would think she is a very normal looking and extremely cute baby! I really don’t see anything wrong with her, but if you look for soemthing wrong I guess maybe her forehead is protruding the slightest bit.

I guess just wait for the CT results???

I LOVE white chocolate macadamia nuts cookies :)

  5. daa says:

Her head doesn’t look misshapen to me. If she does have an issue, it may be the kind of thing that gets more apparent as she grows, though.

    I like cranberry-coconut cookies.

  6. ♥Riyen's Mom & Ayah due 4.12 says:

When my sister was a baby going in for surgery my mom met someone whose baby was born without a soft spot, which meant surgery was inevitable. This was 24 years ago and that baby was just fine, surgical procedures have come SUCH a long way in the past 24 years, but reguardless it IS scary because it’s your baby.

As far as our opinions of your child’s head structure, we aren’t craniofacial surgeons. They specialize in this and it isn’t something that the good people of YA see every day. In my opinion, compared to my children ONLY the top of the head seemed more long, but don’t take anything I say to heart.

I hope everything is okay! Keep us updated!

( Chocolate Chip ALL THE WAY!)

  7. Angela says:

Well, I’m not a doctor but her head looks fine to me. If you had a vagina birth then it is normal for the head to be some what misshapen. Get a 2nd option from another doctor if you are worried about it.

  8. Ms Natalie's Mommy says:

her head looks normal to me….now my friend’s baby’s head on the other hand, i wonder if he has this condition cause his head is HECKA tall and not very round…

i like oatmeal chocolate chip cookies =]

  9. Aphelia Buttz <3 E's Momma <3 says:

    Nice attention getter!! haha!

First off, I loveee Chocolate Chip cookies. Kyles mom makes the BEST and I can’t help but eat 3-4 at a time of hers haha.

I think your daughter is beautiful. I never would of noticed that anything was wrong had you not pointed it out. Maybe her forehead and head is a little long, but I don’t really don’t notice it too much. It would probably be the safest idea to go through with the CT scan to make sure.

Just so you know, my daughter had a HUGE head. Off the chart size. The nurses would measure, wrinkle her forehead and then fix the measureing tape measure again, shake her head and call the doctor in to measure again EVERY SINGLE APPT. Nothing was ever wrong, her head was just weird. It’s still “big” but not noticeable at all.

Please know you guys are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope the CT says that she is perfect!

  10. GabaGoo says:

Dammit, I was hoping for a good rant … oh well..

One of my twins, my son, had a horribly misshapen head… it was from sleeping on one side of his head when he was born … so one side got flat.

That being said… yes, her head looks misshapen… especially in the forehead area. She is beautiful and she is perfect, nonetheless. I hope she doesn’t need surgery but if she does, I wish her a speedy recovery and you a peaceful heart.

  11. She is my Sunshine says:

I think her little head looks perfect. I am sorry you have to go through this with all the worry.
I being not an MD but a mom that has seen a few baby heads thinks she looks fine. She is a cutie!

Good luck hunny and I like good old chocolate chip cookies.

  12. hey mama says:

yes, does sort of look like it slopes up a bit towards the crown of her head on the top of it, like it’s “long.” I don’t know though, it doesn’t outright look like it’s misshapen, but I can see it when you point it out I guess (the third picture shows it the best I think).

I don’t really like cookies : I like pie, can we do pie?

& good luck to you. try not to be worried, I’m sure everything will be fine.

  13. Reason to Live says:

My first question is: How old is your little one? Craniosynostosis is more noticeable in the first few months of life (and very few show symptoms later on). Not only that but it causes facial and cranial abnormalities and quite frankly I don’t see that with your little one.
