Australian Toy, Hobby and Nursery Fair

So on Sunday I went to the 2009 Australian Toy, Hobby and Nursery Fair and was horribly disappointed.

It was stale and uninteresting. Mostly there was nothing new and exciting and the only things that really caugtht my eye were either items that had been out for ages, like Hasbro’s Kota, or new items I’d seen online but hadn’t seen in the flesh yet, like the new Transformers figures.

There were a lot of shiny RC cars and a company that apparently dealt entirely in die-cast construction vehicles, which was pretty awesome. A lot of boring educational toy products poised to ruin many Christmases and a lot of people hawking the same awful costumes that have been around forever.

One thing that really stood out and made me do a double-take was the model rocket display, engines and all, which I’m SURE are illegal here. Maybe they’re relaxing the laws on those kinds of things.

There was also a new(?) line of dolls that I forget the name of but look like the clothes would fit Dals. Blah, can’t remember the name.

Overall the fair was boring and annoying and full of people who either looked bored or mad and there was one raging bitch from Kids’ Safari Pty Ltd hawking some awful "Wrap-n-Ride" plush animal costume shit that had a go at me for having my cameraphone on (you can see her sour, leathery face in the video).

Basically I would have had more fun and likely seen more new products if I went out to Toys’R'Us instead. ;p

Oh, also, there was a big, inflatable giraffe. Hells yeah!

Sidenote: I registered under the guise of FIGURE LIBERATION FRONT which anyone who knows me from dannychoo.com might remember from some comment I made in passing on the article about bankrupcy. Have wanted to do something with the name for a while, this won’t be the only time I use that name this year. ;p
