Choosing the right crib sheets can be an overwhelming task with so many different options to consider. Being a new mom is overwhelming enough, so here are a few facts regarding crib sheets that will make your decision less daunting.
There are several types of crib sheets to choose from. The main ones are 100% cotton jersey knit, 100% cotton flannel, and 100% cotton percale (woven). Here’s a brief description of each along with some of their benefits.
Jersey knit crib sheets are the most popular, in most part because they’re the most practical. They’re extremely soft and comfortable. They work well in all seasons. They add some level of warmth in the winter and aren’t too hot for the summer. They’re thinner than flannel but thicker than the plain cotton woven. They are stretchy too, which will generally help if your mattress is a bit larger than standard and you need that little extra bit.
Flannel crib sheets are equally as soft as the jersey knits and can keep your baby nice and cozy in the winter or in the colder weather. They are a bit thicker than the jersey knits and much thicker than the cotton woven.
Cotton woven crib sheets (most popular in adult size sheets) are generally soft as long as it has a thread count of at least 180. Just like the cotton jersey knit, it works well in all seasons, but it’s not as soft as the jersey knit.
All three options can be washed in warm water and dried normally in the dryer. As long as they’re made of a quality cotton they should last through hundreds of washes without any problem. Keep in mind that as with all 100% cotton fabrics, they will crease but once they’re laid on the mattress the fibers of the fabric will relax over time and it will look like new.
Whichever choice you make, keep in mind that the fit of the crib sheet is also extremely important. You want to make sure that the crib sheet fits securely all around the crib mattress. To ensure a snug fit, crib sheets that are elasticized all around the edges, are the safest choice.
Sheetworld.com is the best source for high quality, excellent fitted crib sheets. They produce crib sheets in all 3 fabric types, and in hundreds of solid colors and printed designs. All of their products are produced in their own factories, and best of all they’re all made right here in the USA. This ensures the highest standards in quality as well as safety. Sheetworld produces almost every standard baby sheet size. They also have a custom tailoring department to produce any size sheet that isn’t standard.
