my baby’s diaper exploded?

Question by tri1104: my baby’s diaper exploded?
Hi – we put our 6 month old baby in Luv’s diapers at night because they are more absorbant than the generic Target brand we use during the day. This morning I got her up and went to change her and it seems the diaper exploded… there was soft crystalized gel stuff all over her belly, butt, etc. I immediately washed her, and she doesn’t seem to have had any reaction to the stuff. My question – is it dangerous at all (obviously I don’t want her eating it or anything), and can I throw the clothes in the washing machine if there is still some of the gel stuff on it?? THANKS! :-)

Yeah, that’s happened to me too. I tried my best to get as much as that gel stuff off the clothes but I washed in in the washing machine with no problem. I’ve never had any luck with Luvs and I would rather spend the extra bucks for Pampers, Huggies, or Kozy Kiddies to save the hassle of having to clean everything every morning.

Why don’t you call the Luv’s diaper company and to be really safe call your pedeatrician.

No, it isn’t dangerous. She must have punctured the lining, allowing the absorbent gel to fall out. It happens from time to time. Most of the “gel” is modified tree pulp or non-toxic resins with a high liquid to mass capacity.
