dairy cows at hawthorne valley farm, a biodynamic oasis of natural fabulousness up in ghent, ny. i love going up there; the farm’s supermarket has everything from raw milk and organic yams to homemade soups, goat-milk ricotta, and beeswax candles. it’s a worth the trip up the taconic, i promise.
i’ve been there twice, once with pappas and once with joan, and both times they’ve let us wander around the barn taking pictures of the dairy cows. while here with joan, the wranglers released the cows, and led them out to pasture. what a treat, to watch them saunter in single file, swishing their ginormous hips like streetwalkers.
and while the shot below might be considered the "better" shot, or certainly the more traditional motif, i actually prefer the blurry shot above. inside the barn, between the flies and the clanging cowbells and the swishing tails and the grunts and the shit and the piss and the hay and the fabulously fluttering eyelashes, your senses are overwhelmed with sound and smell and motion.

organic ramen (I’m obsessed with ramen i think) with a prawn coconutish curry…
I fried a couple of teaspoons of red curry paste in some vegetable oil
threw in some prawns for a few minutes – added a small tin of coconut milk (what diet?), some basil & corriander (or cilantro for my north american friends), green bean & baby corn, waited for the coconut milk to reduce and gave up…
this is the end result
