Question by Gabbie’s Mommy*: how early in my pregnancy should you start buying baby formula?
my baby is due in 3 months and i’m not sure how long baby formula is good before its open so can anyone tell me if you bought baby formula before your baby came and if so how long before.

I have been told if you are going to breast feed not to buy any at all because if it is there, and you have difficulty you can too quickly use the formula and ruin your chances of breast feeding.
Also, if you are not planning on breast feeding I still wouldn’t stock up on formula because there are different kinds out there and you don’t know what type your baby will take to well. You may need a sensitive tummy type or any kind could be fine. If you do buy it, I would wait a little longer so that you can still return it if your baby needs something different.

I wouldnt buy any because you dont know what kind is going to agree with his tummy. You may need to try 2 or 4 brands, and 3 or 3 kinds before you find one thats good for him. and formulas are non returnable
I wouldn’t pre buy formula…not all babies can use all types of formula…what I did was I bought gift cards (and promised myself to only use them for diapers and formula)…it was like a savings account and it really helped when my twins arrived…
If you opt for powdered formula, you can start buying that now. As long as the can/container remains unopened, it’ll be fine. If you decide to use liquid formula, I’d wait at least another month before purchasing that. I prefer the powdered stuff just b/c it lasts longer & you don’t have to use it up as quickly as you do w/ the liquids.
if you are choosing to use formula it don’t expire for a while but breast feeding is way cheaper, more convienant and way easier when it comes to night time feedings. i used formula and breastfed my first and my second exclusively breastfed. i saved a ton of money and knock on wood neither of my children have been sick, they have caught cold but no ear infections etc. good luck!
dont buy any . just set aside money for it. my son’s dr has switched his so many times and stores dont allow you to return it.
I believe it’s only good for 4 weeks when opened. I personally did not buy formula, both of my daughters were exclusively breastfed (my 7 month old still is). I tried formula for a few nights in the desperate hope it wold help her sleep at night, but it did not so I stopped.
If I was formula feeding, I probably would buy it a month before, just in case you go early.
Once the baby is born. You dont know what type of formula is going to work with your child or if they will require any special formula. Preemies sometimes need a higher calorie formula, some babies need soy, some need easily digestable. Dont waste money on formula now until you know what you need to buy. If you want to have something on hand the get one can a few weeks before you are due.

There are centenarians that have cigarettes and drink. The reason for that is there parents lived to an old age. Latest research shows the amount of testosterone in the womb plays a bigger part in a healthy baby. Now without being judge mental, as long as the formula isn’t opened, You can buy it at any time. It is heat treated and long life. I would prefer to get it in ready as there are many things to think of.
