Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) announced Wednesday a voluntary recall of millions of containers of its number 1 Similac powdered infant formulas after beetles were discovered in the products and in a Michigan plant where it is manufactured. The recall comes in the wake of reports from two consumers of contamination and its inspetion of an area of the plant in Sturgis, Michigan, where beetles or their larvae were discovered. The firm said “less than 5 million units” of Similac have been recalled in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean markets. Abbott spokeswoman Melissa Brotz said that all powdered product made in the factory is being recalled due to the remote possibility of contamination. She said, the firm’s alternate factories will increase production of powdered Similac in order to meet demand. The company estimates the returns will cut about 0 million from its third quarter revenue, but still reaffirmed its profit forecast. @necitabb this company has been good to us for over HOW MANY YEARS? 60+ ???? i mean COME ON one mistake. and they are spending over 5 million dollars JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE quit being blinded by bullshit and look at it logically! yea it sucks its a stuation that they are trying to fix but you say oh we trust them how could they do this blah blah blah. THEY DIDNT PUT THE BEATLE IN THERE! they saw the beatle and took APPROPRIATE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, recalled everything JUST IN CASE!!! my god!
@necitabb first off people the beatle or larva or whatever was NOT found in the product it was found in the werehouse and this company is VOLUNTARILY recalling their product as a precaution because they DONT want to harm anyones kids. and you have to realize what they are doing is simply a precaution. your kids sick because ITS A BABY!!! THEY ARE GOING TO GET SICK it BUILDS IMMUNITY. quit blaming the first reason that shows up which logically isnt even a real reason. so snap out of it people!
gooooddd hope that company breaks down for contaminating our babies im very angry i have a 6 month old baby and i trusted similac more than anything my baby is now sick do to this irresponsibility im really upset and im siwitching to a better formula
