Do you think it’s tacky to have a blog/website about your pregnancy?

Question by jenn_smithson: Do you think it’s tacky to have a blog/website about your pregnancy?
My husband and I are expecting our first child in November. We won’t be having any showers for a few months yet but I’ve been looking online at what’s available and my question is do you think it’s tacky to have a blog/website about the pregnancy? I specifically want to tell our friends and family who will eventually attend a shower that we don’t need brand new things, I want to encourage them to look first at their local resale shops, we’re cloth diapering and will try to breastfeed, and that we would like, if possible, to have as much organic and chemical free items as well as as little plastic as possible for the baby. We’re trying to keep our concern for our family’s impact on the environment at the forefront of this new change to our lives and we want to encourage friends and family to maybe consider that as well when/if they happen to want to get us a gift.

Part of me thinks this is a good idea and part of me thinks it’s tacky. What do you say?

I think coming out and saying “We only want natural/organic baby things” is, but having a pregnancy blog isn’t! You could write often about how important it is to you.

And when you register for your shower, they may get the hint when everything is environmentally friendly.

Organic and chemical free items cost a butt load more than the other ones and asking people to buy these things is tacky to me. Good luck with that cloth diapering!

Skip the internet and just start talking up how much you want organic and non-plastic items. Mention it to family or friends when it comes up. Also mention how you were looking at a really great resale shop and found some things and how you would love it if you could get some gently used items for your own nursery. People will be very reticent to shop resale for a gift unless you let them know it is okay and even preferable. Nothing beats discussing your preferences as it is appropriate.

Yeah the whole organic/plastic thing might be a bit much…Its really thoughtful for people to attend your shower and you don’t want to come across as being picky. But there is nothing wrong with being excited about the baby and creating a blog! Maybe you could use it to drop a few SUBTLE hints about going green.

I think the blog is a good idea

If you were truly considerate of the environment you would not be having a baby. Kids are awful, carbon producing, resource using, earth destroying creatures. You failed.
