how do you feel about sitting baby walker toys?

Question by Chloe Melia Alana Landon’s Mom: how do you feel about sitting baby walker toys?
i recently got one as a gift for my 15 week old because she realized we didn’t own one and that this was our 3rd child already (obviously if we do decide to keep it she wont be using it for a while). http://www.walmart.com/ip/Chicco-DJ-Baby-Walker-Splash/8465718 (the one she got us).but the reason i didn’t own one is because i am skeptical about the whole sitting baby walker thing. my problem wouldn’t be the hazard factor- getting too close to the stairs or bumping into dangerous furniture because i feel when a baby is playing “alone” the parents should be close to arms reach. my problem is that i have heard that they make the child less eager for self-mobility because they can do it sitting down already in their walker with little effort. but this is just what i have heard. i don’t know how i feel about the toy yet. what do you all think? keep or take back and purchase something else?

my eldest had one and loved it, he was allways in it!
my next used it to, but no were near as her brother!
my third hated it and wouldnt use it, i ended up getting rid of it

all 3 started walking by themselves by 14 months, none earlier or later than the others.

i had one for my daughter she never really used it much. i know some kids who live in it and walk just fine after they have used the walker growing up.. if you really don’t want it. i would take it back and get something that you really wanted or needed but just did not have the money or something for it.. but that is a nice walker.. good luck.. but like i said my daughter never liked hers when she was a baby.. she is 4 year old now..

We’ve used them and have never had any problems with them. We shut the doors to any stairs or use safety gates and I’m not really sure what you mean by “dangerous furniture”? Like the baby reaching out and pulling the couch over on themselves…? If you’re keeping an eye on them there’s really no threat.

Our kids were all walking before 12 months. I think things like walkers and exersaucers are great because they allow babies to work on their leg muscles, not become lazy.

Take it back and get something else. Since you have kids that were walker-less you know that it doesn’t help any in the ability to walk. I personally find them dangerous – but if that is not your concern and your personal experience shows you that it doesn’t really help anyone walk any faster – I’d get something more useful to you.

My daughter was walker-less and walked before she turned 10 months. I don’t think having a walker would make any difference.

I also don’t think it helps develop the leg muscles as some have suggested. It is basically just another toy to keep a child entertained.

They are BANNED in Canada because of safety reasons. So say what you will, I do think that they are dangerous.
