Can my 7 month old be switched to stage 3 baby food?

Question by hopeful: Can my 7 month old be switched to stage 3 baby food?
My 7 month old is on stage 2 baby food and can eat a jar & a 1/2 in 1 feeding, she doesn’t like baby rice cereal, she absolutely loves gerber crawler level/graduate type snacks..ie…graduates lil crunchies (if I break it up in to smaller pieces)the gerber fruit puffs things, the gerber yogurt melts, Earth Best organic wheat teething biscuits on occasion, and she takes about 3-4 bottles a day of formula ranging from 6-8 ounces in a serving 8 ounces if she’s hasn’t much solids like baby snacks or baby food and then more like 5 bottles. Is it time for me to move her up to stage 3 baby food if she is doing this? She has 2 bottom teeth if that matters any. Thanks!

Usually you can do a mixture of things…using how many teeth they have as a helpful guidline.
You don’t want the baby to choke, which is why you start with baby foods. Gradually you can add easy to eat things like pieces of banana, scrambled eggs, a graham cracker (which dissolves pretty easily), etc. Always think about “could the baby choke?” as your safeguard…and as she gets more teeth, she can chew things more. Four bottles a day, with other foods added sounds about right…the last one before she goes to bed. You can give her cheerios and softer hand foods gradually…and the baby food as well.

I used to add rice baby cereal to the last bottle which kept the baby feeling fuller and sleeping well during the night….to do this you add acouple of tablespoons to the milk or formula…and open the nipple a little because it will be thinker to drink. You can do this for a very small baby as well….I never had babies staying awake all night.

Stick to the stage 2 because the stage 3 has thicker chunks and it will be alot harder for her to go number 2.And if she only has 2 teeth. I would wait 2 or 3 more month’s. When she can eat 2 whole jar’s then maybe try her on stage 3. But she is still young.

What the heck are yogurt melts?? lil’crunchies??? Sounds like a whole crap load of sugar to me … and processing. Yuck. What’s wrong with some steamed and chopped up veggies, some boiled chicken that you puree yourself? My son is 9 mos and I’ve never bought a single spec of baby food. I imagine those things can get quite costly. Millions of babies the whole world over have managed to survive and thrive on actual REAL food.

Michael Pollan was on Oprah yesterday. I think you can see some of it on youtube. He reffers to “foods” like yogurt melts as “food -like substances” . Gerber ( aka the evil Neslte, but that’s another story) Is not in it for the health of your child , they are in business to take your money. You don’t need them . just feed your daughter real food that comes out of your fridge- if it won’t rot- don’t feed it to her!
