the gift that kept on going

Last weekend we went to a baby shower for a friend of mine that I’ve known since second grade – I actually still remember the day we met. Jen and her husband Michael live in New Jersey now, but her parent’s still live in Concord, so they had a shower up here.
The gift that they are working on opening in this picture went on for close to twenty minutes. The gift-giver wrote a book of poems realted to each of the presents in the bundle (there were 4 or 5, I believe) and made Jen read each poem before opening the present. The gift-giver also insisted on being the first present opened.
Note: if you’re going to bring a similar gift to a baby shower, have the grace to go last. Everyone else in the room was looking at each other like, "are you serious? There’s another present in that bundle – and poor Jen has to read another poem out loud?!"
Doesn’t Michael look pleased?
Oh well.
It was good to see Jen and Michael and a bunch of other people that I haven’t seen in a while.
