The Taggie blanket… Both my kids use it and they are magical.
25 dollars is all you need.

something baby einstein
Diapers & wipes are always good
$50 gift card to Babys R Us
Bouncy chair
Baby backpack
Savings bond for baby (or check)
Walker
Diaper bag filled with goodies
Babys first years books are very good and helpful, other wise clothes is always nice, and gift cards, seems crappy but most people love gift cards.
Get her a sling to wear the baby in.
A prenatal massage gift certificate!!!! I had one recently and it was heaven! It’s something different and something the mom to be will really appreciate later on in pregnancy.
A vibrating bouncy chair you can get some for under $50
How about the stuff she will “need” diapers, lotion, shampoo, diaper rash cream. I know I loved getting all that stuff..and really helped me to stock up
D batteries. If she gets a swing, bouncer, etc, she’ll need them. We also loved our sound machines for the kids.
You could also do a gift cerificate to some restaurant that delivers, with my babies the last thing I had energy for was to cook and then have to clean up.
Get a baby bathtub and fill it with goodies. The tubs are around $20 and you can buy things like baby washcloths, shampoo, lotions, etc. to put in it.
At babiesrus they have a shopping cart cover for the baby to sit on while you do your shopping. Its really colorful and has attachments for the baby to play with. It was my favorite shower gift.
Bebe Pod Chair! You can find it at Walmart and Target online. It was something that really helped my son sit up on his own better. And he could play with his toys while sitting in it… I was so glad we bought one, and it was only maybe 35-40.
Diapers !!
Gift certificate for a portrait that is tucked inside a photo album or picture frame.
Diapers are always wonderful. Also, the Johnson & Johnson Baby Gifts Packs. They have all kinds, regular bath stuff, nighttime bath stuff, baby medicine kits, etc. I got like 6 of them at my baby shower and I loved them. Check out Wal-Mart, it’s everybody’s favorite.
Diapers
The popular gifts are always clothes and little cutie things. They are nice, but she will get a ton of that stuff and honestly, some of it may never get worn or used. A great gift (which I didn’t get at either of my showers) is a baby tub. These run about $10-$15 bucks. How about a little bubble bath for mom (she’ll need it after those long days and nights) and put the rest in a drug store gift card (Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, etc). It may not sound exciting, but she is going to need diapers, baby gadgets, baby medicine, liquid vitamins, etc. She’ll be happy to use that card when she’s making a late night run to the store and is short on cash.
Or, a Boppie cushion is nice. (I think that’s what they are called.) It’s a horseshoe-shaped cushion that is great for propping baby’s little head up for nursing, bottle feeding, or propping baby herself when she is able to hold her head up on her own. Oh, another good thing is the car seat/bounce seat head cushion which keeps their little heads from falling to the side.
I often pick out a great kids book and a picture frame to put their first picture in by the parents/.
The basics are always great. Gift certificates for diapers- check out Pampers.com. For as fun gift, check out ebay- I ordered custom made burp cloths and bibs for a friend with the baby’s father’s favorite sports teams on them.
My absolute favorite is http://www.itsmybinky.com. They make custom pacifiers for babies. You can get some really cool ones, and its a big hit at baby showers.
A practical gift is a savings bond for the child. When the child is old enough to use it, it will be at its full value and give you extra special aunt status!
You really can’t go wrong with the basics and 50 bucks is plenty to get a great gift. For more substantial bang for your buck- Fisher price makes an awesome baby chair. It converts from a stationary seat for babies to a rocker for toddlers. Its about $45 and is worth every penny- We had one for our son who is now 7 and just purchased one for our 13 month old daughter.
Don’t stress- its the thought that counts, and you are definately racking up some points for thinking about what the best gift could be!
One last thought- the baby first aid kits they sell at the big stores like walmart make great first time parent gifts. For a recent shower for a first time mom, I made a gift box filled with baby medicines- tylenol, motrin, dimmetapp drops, mylicon, ambusol, diaper rash cream. the infant medicines are pricey and it seems that you never have the one the pediatrician recommends!! Its a great time saver for the new mom.
Ok and my last thought. Gift cards for any local restaurants so they can get takeout when its one of those nights right after the baby arrives and there is no way anyone is cooking!
the one gift that was my favorite was a basket, filled with different lotions, wipes, baby meds and blankets bottles, Etc. Just get little things and fil it up! Tie a big bow and done! and she will LOVE IT!
you know what? get something for HER! every single thing i recieved while i was pregnant was for my baby, and when a girl is pregnant, she really needs some extra pampering. i would suggest buying a $50 gift certificate for her at a local nail salon or spa. i know i sure couldnt reach my feet, and that late in pregnancy its safe to use nail polish. i would have given my right index finger for a pedicure. lol. just imagine how your feet hurt after walking around all day with a heavy back pack. now do that for six months. yup, get something for her, not her baby.
Okay I do know that there are baby monitor’s that are under 50, as well you might look for a diaper genie, (trust me these things are awesome, they really cut down on the “diaper odor”) or if you find that these are too expensive then what I would do is to 1)get her some receiving blankets, (trust me a mom cannot have too many of these), or a nice fleecy blanket in a neutral colour (unless you know if it’s gonna be a boy or girl) This was the absolute best gift that I got, was the fleecy blanket’s for my son (buy 2 for when one is in the wash)….other than that I would get something for the crib like the new fisher price aquarium (sorry hon don’t know how much $) but I do have something similar that my son loved that has the sounds of water/crickets/birds etc…also it plays some tunes and light’s up (he is 6 and sometimes when he is sick or scared he still wants his “cricket’s” on to help him sleep) he outgrew the fleecy blankets but he’s still using the fisher price sound thing, so I’d have to say try for that, cause when you have a newborn, or a sick kid, other than the blankie….the light’s and sounds are the only thing between your “sister in law” and many sleepless nights!
good luck

Diaper Genie! Seriously. Best thing ever. They run about $20 and you could throw in a few bag refills for $5 each. (The new diaper genie model runs about $30, but the older model should still be on the shelves, too.)
In case you don’t know what it is, it’s a special garbage can for diapers. It seals each diaper very tightly so the smell can’t get out. Saves the parents from runnning to the garage with every diaper change. Also great for families with pets, so they don’t try to get into the trash.
Buy her a diaper bag and the odd & ends she will need in it – bottle, wipes, pacifier, small pack of diapers, an outfit for the baby. Put the stuff in it yourself and then wrap it up
Savings Bonds. At this age the kids don’t care anyway and will already be getting a bunch of clothes and toys. Of course diapers are great too, but helping to fund the babys future and education is the best!
I think you should buy a carseat or stroller.
Buy them a bottle of wine for when the baby grows up and get married or graduates from college or something like that
-Waterproof lap pads (we still put them everywhere we lay him down)
-gowns or zip up sleep sacks.
-a pack of cloth diapers, they make great burp rags
-fisher price ocean onders aquarium!
-Baby magic lotion & wash smells the best.
-Bumbo! these seats are the best!
-boppy if she is breastfeeding, it helped so much
-bouncer, http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2011&e=detail&selcat=bgb&pid=31327
that is the one we have, it works like a bassinet and you can rock them, when they get bigger they lobve the toy bar and even bigger its a rocking chair!
i’d say get yo sista a baby stroller.
how about a swing? diapers always usful
Diapers, baby wash, lotion, pacifiers, bibs, gift certificates, etc…
A DIAPER CAKE!!!!
I custom make diaper cakes and you can get a really, really nice one to match your “sister in law’s” shower theme, nursery decor, or WHATEVER you want!!!
Tons of diapers….goodies for the baby!! It will be the most talked about thing at the shower!
Check out my website….I really do think you would like giving this and I KNOW she would like receiving it!!
The greatest gift I ever received was a small laundry basket filled with just odds and ends of baby stuff. It had a big pink bow on it. When I got all the goodies out, I used it for babies dirty clothes. I was the cutest, and no worries with wrapping it up! Another idea to do is a small diaper bag w/a clothes line…as the clothes line is pulled out there is clothes pins on it w/different little baby accessories clipped to it!
