Q&A: Bamboo or hemp for diapers?

Question by NONAME: Bamboo or hemp for diapers?
For those of you that cloth diaper and use (or have used) bamboo or hemp which do you use or prefer to use and why?
And can anyone tell me the differences in them?
I want to order some fabric to make some fitteds and some AIO’s and possibly some inserts, and I want to get one or the other.
Suggestions?

Hemp is stronger and is naturally anti-fungal and anit-bacterial. And it washes better. Definitely go with hemp, it is more expensive where I live, I am unsure about other places, but it is worth it.

I like to use ones made from a combination of the two- hemp holds more liquid but bamboo is a lot softer.
If I had to choose between the two I’d probably go with bamboo, as hemp tends to dry stiff and bamboo tends to stay soft. Plus hemp has a bit of an odor to it, I like the smell of the bamboo ones better.
My favourite all in one has suedecloth against the skin, a layer of microfibre towelling to soak up the fluid straight away, then a layer of bamboo followed by a layer of hemp against the PUL. It was made by a friend of mine- I can’t sew the things to save my life!

Hemp is more absorbant. I usually get the pocket diapers with a fleece liner and hemp inserts. They hold a lot more. Bamboo is softer though, so a mixture would be good. You want softer against his skin and more absorbant in it. I would go with bamboo if I had to choose one, but if my son was a heavy wetter I would go with hemp. Depends on your needs.

I haven’t used bamboo yet but am very pleased with the hemp!

I have both and love them. They are both much more absorbent than cotton. They are both antibacterial as far as I’ve heard, which is nice. I would highly recommend them to you.
