Is it safe to mix baby formula with 2 cans of water instead of one?

Question by Rabit: Is it safe to mix baby formula with 2 cans of water instead of one?
My baby runs out of formula in about 2 1/2 weeks after i pick up. So my mom usually mixes baby formula with one can of water as called for until the baby is about 9 or 10 months. Then she mixes it with 2 cans of water. Is this a safe thing to do?

No, it’s not. Babies can very easily get too much water. You child is also not getting all the vitamins and etc. that she/he needs. Mix it according to the directions.

No, as the other person said your baby wouldn’t be getting enough nutrients. I know formula is expensive but if you get on the formulas website you can sign up to receive free coupons! 5 and even 10 dollars off….heck, get your friends with different addresses to sign up to so they can give them to you!

“Do not water down baby formula to stretch your supply and save money.
Doing so could cause serious illness or death in babies, said McKenzie Schaecher, a registered dietitian with the Scott County WIC, or Women, Infant and Children, program.
“We didn’t have a lot of parents ask us about it,” she said. “We just wanted to make sure that it was known because sometimes people don’t bring up those issues to us.”
So, the WIC office put an item in its most recent monthly newsletter about the issue, which received national attention when a 23-year-old Florida mother diluted her infant’s formula to save money and the baby almost died.”

…is this baby 9 or 10 months old? Hard to follow the question. If the kid is that age he can and should be supplemented with extra food — not water.

No. Your diluting all the nutrition, giving your baby less of what it needs and filling it up on water. Not healthy.

Get off your butt and get more formula. Buy them 2 at a time if you need to.

Always follow the instructions for preparation, use and storage of formula written on the formula label. If you water down the infant formula, you will be malnourishing your child. Is she doing that to save money on formula? If that’s the case, then consider switching to a Store Brand if you haven’t already. The national name brands are so expensive, and are nutritionally equal to the Store Brands. I used Parent’s Choice with our girls, and they did very well. They are very healthy, and they are doing amazing. We saved up to 50% off of the name brands… that’s like $1400 in one year saved. Check out ParentsChoiceFormula.com and check out the types of formula, use the formula finder to find one that might work for your baby, and check out the Savings Calculator to see how much money you can save… Just STOP watering down your formula now!!!
