Anyone else use Bum Genius cloth diapers? How well do they work?

Question by lysistrata411: Anyone else use Bum Genius cloth diapers? How well do they work?
Someone just bought us 6 bum genius diapers for our baby that is due in October. I’ve never used these before and was wondering if anyone else had and how well they work? These aren’t the one size, they are the perfect fit type where you can choose specific sizes.

I have the one-size and I love them. Very good quality diapers.
I don’t see why the sized ones would be any different. One thing though, they’re a little trim, so they may fit your baby before the lowest weight limit and not fit him/her at the maximum. So, try them before they hit the limit and see.

I love the Bum Genius diapers. I think they are very, very user-friendly, similar to a disposable, only you toss ‘em in the wash. They are super absorbent, also, and good for babies with sensitive skin. If you want to go all cloth, you’ll need more, especially for newborns who poop a lot. I would recommend having some newborn disposables on-hand anyway, since many babies don’t actually fit into these diapers immediately. Like Diet C said, they might not fit at the maximum weight recommendation, either. They are getting very snug on my son, who should still fit them for several more pounds.

I love them. I have a few of the all in ones (like you have) in both medium and large, and they are great. If I could afford to have my entire diaper stash just AIOs, I would. They’re incredibly convenient, very easy to use. I try to save them for when we are out and about, because they work just like a disposable. They are great diapers, you will be very happy with them! The only downside to them vs. the pocket diapers is they take a loooong time to dry.

oh i loved these. i bought the one size where they goes from 5-30lbs. they are easy to use and wash.i used all free and clear and had no problems. you will need more than 6 diapers to get started. i would suggest 18 of them. i also bought liners that are kinda like toilet paper so when they get older you don’t have to “wash” them out when they poop. i just need to find out where i can sell my cloth diapers since we are now potty training. they will save TONS of money. have fun cloth diapering they will get addictive. check out zbeardiapers.com. she is VERY helpful with cloth diapers, that is where i bought all of mine thru

I love my Bum Genius. We use the 3.0 pocket diapers now because I found that AIO’s just take too long to dry in the dryer.
Urban fluff makes a great AIO, the soaker snaps on the top so it dries very quickly. They also are clearing out their stock right now and you can get them for $10, but I think the soaker is $3 extra…either way its a great price for cloth diapers.

    Great choice!
I have about 20 of the AIO.

Random stuff that might help you:
    - Find and use poo liners – the ones I use are Bummi’s I believe. They go on top of the diaper (on the inside haha) between baby’s bum and the diaper. They collect most of the poo and make things so much easier to clean out – and are flushable!!!
    - Remove the liners from inside before you wash, then hang the shells to dry while you throw the liners in the dyer. This keeps the shells looking like brand new for a long time.
    - Hang everything out to dry in the sun every so often when you can – it kills stains and smells. If it’s winter, just wash the liners twice.
    - I use wonderwash detergent and it’s worked great so far.
    - Find a pail or something with a lid to put them in so it doesn’t smell up the room – but it does not need to be a wet pail. Mine is dry and none of my diapers are stained.
    - We use nighttime huggies diapers at night because he pees like a maniac and nothing but those hold up to it. I tried double/triple stuffing but still didn’t work!
    - They didn’t fit him until he was about 2 months old – so you may want to have at least one pack of disposables around when baby is born – and newborn poo is like tar – so it was easier to use disposable for the first two months anyways.
    - I’ve washed the diapers on their own and with the rest of his clothing with NO issues.
    - I never noticed the ‘wash five times’ before using thing and all my diapers work great.

My cousin uses the same type and her almost 3 year old is still in them – they all look brand new and work great. I was worried for a while that they’d be a hassle and I’d not use them, but they’ve been great and no hassle at all. I have left them for over 5 days in their pail all dirty and they all came out perfect.

Good luck! I hope they work as well for you as they have for me and everyone else here!

These are great diapers, made of high quality materials. What a wonderful gift you received. I say use them… and get some more of course! Your hubby will love them too when he sees how easy they are to use. Congrats and good luck!
