Parents, are baby pajamas really fire proof?

Question by KW: Parents, are baby pajamas really fire proof?
When I was in highschool, fifteen years ago, my cousin said she could not put her kids down for a nap in their clothing because it was not fireproof. Is that true that pajamas are? Is that why they make a special yarn for baby blankets? Or is that why they do not have crocheted baby pajama patters?

Answer by Dalton’s Mommy
They are fire-resistant. Not fire-proof. Not sure about the yarn.

I have never heard of fireproof pjs. I don’t see how they can be made to be fireproof unless they completely cover the kids face and all and have no holes

  2. Zandy Marine says:

Fire-Resistant, there is no fire-proof clothing, if you catch the fire quickly and are able to put it out they can help, but they wont stop a burn.

    clothes are not “fire proof”

There are some regulations on clothing being fire resistant.. there is a difference. Fire resistant means the clothing is less likely to catch on fire from a small flame, such as a candle or lighter.

Fire proof means the item wouldnt burn at all.. there’s not many materials that are fire proof.

when i was younger and would buy new pajamas, the tag would have a note about being fire resistant.

but if a house is burning, im pretty sure pajamas aren’t going to save a life, or be the culprit.

your cousin was a little bit over reactive and dependent on the safety of the pajamas

Only loose-fitting pajamas have to be fire-resistant. Snug-fitting pagamas don’t have to be. No, pajamas can still burn, just not as fast. Most infaant sleepers are snug-fitting, so they don’t have to bve fire resistant at all.
